About Jim Goecker

Jim Goecker representing Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at a college fair

Jim started his career teaching social studies in middle school and high school. After a few years he moved to higher education, starting in student affairs before pursuing admissions and enrollment management. He spent over three decades at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana, culminating with 15 years as Vice President of Enrollment Management. His career afforded him many opportunities to travel around the United States and the world, but he never lost his passion for learning and understanding the grand tragedy of the American Civil War.

He holds a B.S. in Social Studies Education and a M.A. degree in American History from Ball State University and a M.S. in Higher Education Administration from Indiana State University. He was a Summer Fellow at the Peabody Professional Institute for Higher Education Management, Vanderbilt University, and a participant in the Harvard University Summer Institute on College Admissions.

Jim and his wife Deb have recently moved to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where Jim spends part of his time with the Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation as a volunteer coordinator. The Valley has such a rich history and close connection to the American Civil War, it has become his new area of interest and research.
